Year 1 and 2 Trip to Coventry Museum – 25th April 2017 (0 images)

As part of their topic work covered last term on The Jolly Postman and transport, Year 1 and 2 visited Coventry Transport Museum and had a smashing time. The children in Year 2 wrote recounts of their visit. Matilda wrote “…Arriving at the museum the first thing I saw was a motorbike it was old and fragile. Next I strolled through the corridor and I saw a Penny Farthing and a Bone Shaker tricycle. When I saw the tricycle I said “This is my favourite!” Lottie wrote “…After the first group had lunch we went to look around the galleries. I liked looking at all the simulators downstairs. There was a pretend simulator that made you feel as if you were in a real one. But I didn’t go in. Then unfortunately it was time to go so we went into our room to get all of our things, lined up ready to go home on the coach…”

Ian King a children’s illustrator spent a day with us. (16 images)

Ian worked with a group of children from years 1 – 6 on our theme of Superheroes. Each group created a super hero depicting one of our learning behaviours. It was really good to have Ian back in school working with the children. They enjoyed sharing their ideas with him – so much so that he found it difficult to leave on Friday afternoon! We are looking forward to working with him again soon.

On Monday 4th July, St Michael's sent a team comprising four of our Year 6 mathematicians, to take part in a Maths Challenge Day at Wycombe High School. 16 schools, from all over the Buckinghamshire area, took part in the competition. Our pupils: Callum, Grace, Theo and Ben were fantastic. In fact, during the break, I was very proud to hear their supervisor commenting on their teamwork and focus. Our team came 9th out of 16 which is a tremendous achievement, particularly when you realise that some teams are old hands at this competition and have had plenty of practice. Well done to our team. I was impressed by your mathematical brains. Also special thanks to Mrs Perkin who became a supervisor for the day and kindly transported all the children and myself.

On Thursday six keen cyclists from Year 6 travelled to the Buckingham School to participate in the annual cycling festival. Four of the team qualified for the Individual Finals and special mention should go to Nathan for winning his sprint as well as the Boys Endurance Final; a cycling superstar in the making! The team would not have made it into 2nd place without the resilience of Hannah who picked herself up after a fall in the final to compete in the relay race. It was a great team performance with all the pupils giving their best over a very tiring afternoon. The school would like to say a huge well done to Jesse, Nathan, Hannah, Maggie, Phoebe and Joe and thank Mr Handsley , Dr Hughes and Mr O'Callaghan for transporting and supporting the team.

This year, year 3 and 4 performed 'Uncle Crumble’s Mad Machine' It was a story about four argumentative children who fiddled with their uncle's time machine and went back in time to the 1960's and then to the Roman era . In an attempt to get home, they flew into the future and experienced a school run by a robot. Finally returning home, they realised the importance of each other and decided to stop arguing and moaning as much. The children spoke confidently and clearly and their singing was super . The costumes were bright and fun too. It was obvious that the children were enjoying themselves and I know the audiences thoroughly enjoyed watching them. Many thanks to all the families and friends who supported the children by providing costumes, helping with the learning of words and of course, coming along to watch the performance.
